Description
The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared 2021 the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables (IYFV). The main responsibility for conducting the IYFV belongs to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The IYFV has four main objectives:
- Raising public awareness and draw the legislative bodies attention to the benefits of fruits and vegetables consumption for human health and nutrition;
- Promoting balanced and diversified healthy diets through fruits and vegetables consumption;
- Reducing losses and waste in food systems;
- Sharing best practices in the consumption, production, storage, transportation, processing and retailing of fruits and vegetables.
Fruits and vegetables are extremely important for nutrition, food security and human health, including the strengthening of the immune system. Innovations and advanced technologies can significantly increase food production, as well as reducing the loss and damage of food products. There is no doubt that the IYFV will make a significant contribution to solving food problems at the global level, including in Kyrgyzstan.
