BEGINNING A STAMP COLLECTION--WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO START?

Beginning a stamp collection can be a fairly simple endeavor, or if not thought out properly an overwhelming task. A few basic questions have to be asked. #1) What age is this collection going to be geared for? #2) How extensive (or complete) do I want the collection to be. #3) Are there any areas of concentration that I want focus on. #4) What is my budget or budget guidelines.

For a young beginning collector, the answers can be quite simple. Beginner albums and stamp packets can be the gateway into the world of stamp collecting. It does not take a major investment, and a good worldwide assortment of stamps and provide hours of sorting, identifying, and learning about new countries and commemorations. For the very young, an assortment of used US commemoratives can be a first step of gaining insights into US history, geography, and postal commemorations. Large packets of used US commemoratives, on and off paper, can be purchased at very reasonable prices either via Ebay, Craig's List, or dealers on the Internet specializing in US and worldwide packets.

For many years, County Stamp Center has been selling the Robert Obojski beginners' stamp album for young collectors just starting their journey into the stamp world. The album is soft covered, with many pages with illustrations for placement of worldwide stamps. A map of the world and stamp identifier is supplied to assist a beginner in identifying and properly placing stamps. We sell this album with an assortment of 100 worldwide stamps along with stamp hinges to properly adhere stamps to album pages. Stamps can be mounted on the actual illustration provided in the album or adhered to blank pages in the album.

If you are looking to start an aspiring collector (ages 6-99) on a journey of discovery of the philatelic world, this is just the ticket. Make sure to view our beginners' album and stamps.
