Antique Toys Postage Stamps

Antique Toys Postage Stamps

Antique cast iron toys were all the rage during late 19th and early 20th centuries. Factories began producing the toys in mass quantities during the 1880’s instead of producing war materials. Unlike toys that are created in today’s world, the cast iron toys of the past were made with intricate design details which allowed them to look like miniature versions of their larger counterparts. In those days, each part of the toy was cast separately, then sanded and polished, before each part was individually assembled. These quality toys were hand painted and are very popular with collectors who are lucky enough to find them.

The United States Postal Service issued a set of four postage stamps in June of 2002 to commemorate antique toys. Because of the upcoming postage stamp increase that was due to occur; the stamps were initially issued without a denomination printed on them. By July of 2002, and after the stamp price increase, the USPS re-issued these definitive postage stamps depicting the new 37-cent denomination.
