Alfred Hitchcock Postage Stamps
Alfred Hitchcock was commemorated by the United States postal service in 1998 with a 32 cent postage stamp. His stamp was one of the many stamps that were issued as part of the “Legends of Hollywood” series that proved to be quite popular among collectors and fans alike. One of the things that make these stamps unique for United States issues is that the silhouette of Hitchcock, that is on each stamp, is actually die cut into the face of the stamp.
Hitchcock was originally a British filmmaker and producer who eventually brought his talents to the United States. Holding duel citizenships in the United Kingdom and the United States, he was a master at creating movie thrillers, romantic comedies, and dramas. His films were diverse and viewers always looked forward to his trademark cameo appearances. Despite his many successes, awards and nominations, Alfred Hitchcock never personally earned the coveted Academy Award he sought. His film “Rebecca” did win the award for Best Picture however; but the award did not go directly to Hitchcock.
