Christmas Postage Stamps
The holidays are here and with such, so are the Christmas inspired postage stamps. Like in the United States, many countries around the world issue Christmas themed postage stamps each year. It is widely believed that Canada issued the first Christmas postage stamps in 1898, although they were not terribly festive looking. Those 2 cent stamps showed a map of the world with areas marked in red that were lands that belonged to the British Empire. The most “Christmas” thing about the stamp was that it had “XMAS 1898” printed on the bottom center of the stamp. Nowadays, there is a huge selection of Christmas themed postage stamps available worldwide. From traditional nativity scenes, animal scenes, winter scenes, Santa’s, cartoon characters, children, angels, wreaths, candles, poinsettias, and so many more. The choices are seemingly endless.
