R. Buckminster Fuller Postage Stamp
Thought to be the one of the greatest minds of all times, R. Buckminster Fuller was a 20th century inventor and philosopher. He strived to create items that could be mass produced while reducing the use of natural resources.
He is best known for inventing the Geodesic Dome which is a dome that uses a series of interlocking triangles. The end result of the structure is a sturdy, yet lightweight dome that does not need internal supports. In 2004, on the 50th anniversary of when Fuller received the patent for his most famous invention, the United States Postal Service issued a commemorative postage stamp that honored the inventor. The picture on the stamp originally appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1964 and shows Fullers head in the pattern of a Geodesic Dome like he created.
In Fuller’s lifetime he earned 25 patents, received 47 honorary doctorate degrees, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom award.
