Stamp Collecting Fun For The Masses
“Mauritius” is a play that was written by Theresa Rebeck. It originally made its Broadway debut at the Biltmore Theatre in 2007. This widely acclaimed thriller is about two half sisters who inherit their late mother’s stamp collection after she dies. They soon discover that two of the stamps in particular could be worth megabucks, and the mayhem begins. In the story, three other conniving scoundrels take an interest in the stamps as well and they are willing to do most anything to get their hands on the prize. Many plot twists and betrayals occur in this dark, yet sometimes funny, drama.
Besides being a great storyline about stamp collecting, one of the things that stamp collectors will enjoy most about this play is that it is technically correct. Stamp collecting experts served as consultants from the beginning to make certain that the language and situations always rang true.
After its run on Broadway, the show hit the road and has popped up in various locations around the United States. Mauritius will be showcased once again at the Echo Theatre in the Dallas Fort-Worth area beginning on September 11th; but you should definitely keep watching your local theaters for this fantastically fun play about stamp collecting! Other locations it will be appearing at are: Philadelphia Theatre Company – March 2010 and Curtain Players in Ohio – June 2010. If this play comes to your area, it’s certainly one that stamp collectors will enjoy!
