Frank Sinatra Stamps Wildly Popular

Have you been sending out mail with stamps that feature Ol’ Blue Eyes?

Early in December 2007 the U.S. Postal Service announced that a Frank Sinatra stamp was to be available in early 2008. Sinatra is remembered for such hit songs as “Strangers in the Night”, “My Way”, and “(Theme From) New York, New York.” He was also known for the fraternizing with other Hollywood entertainers including Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford, and Joey Bishop in a group called the Rat Pack.

Francis Albert Sinatra was born in Hoboken, N.J. on December 12, 1915. The American icon died in 1998 and in 2002 the post office in his birthplace was renamed to honor him.

When citizens of New Jersey were asked which musician from their state they’d take with them on a desert island, Sinatra was at the top of the list. The USPS has had numerous requests for a Sinatra stamp over the years and now the popular singer is getting his due.

Before being commemorated on a stamp, Sinatra was honored with an Oscar, several Grammys, a Kennedy Center Honor, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The stamp is a vertical design and shows a image of Sinatra from his heyday in the mid-1950s. This stamp is wildly popular since its release and continues to be a favorite for many worldwide.
