Canadians In Hollywood Postage Stamps
American’s are not the only folks who have contributed to the success and glamour of Hollywood throughout the years. Since the beginning of the film industry, many Hollywood legends have originated from Canada.
The Canadian Post has similar rules to the United States in regards to issuing commemorative postage stamps for their citizens. In May of 2006, Canada issued the Canadians In Hollywood commemorative postage stamps to commemorate some of their own that made it big in Hollywood. In the series, Fay Wray, who is best known for her performance in King Kong, was the only person who was initially announced to the public. The other three featured stamps were kept a secret until their unveiling. Fay Wray was soon joined by, Mary Pickford (Taming of the Shrew and Ben-Hur), Lorne Green (Bonanza), and the beloved funny man, John Candy (Splash, Stripes and Planes, Trains and Automobiles).
In keeping with Hollywood’s love of sequels, these stamps have a sequel too. In of 2008, the Canada Post issued the Canadians in Hollywood: The Sequel commemorative stamp set with four more top Hollywood legends. These stamps featured Raymond Burr (Perry Mason), Marie Dressler (Tugboat Annie), Chief Dan George (Little Big Man), and Norma Shearer (The Divorcée).
